Lord Helmet blends classic and contemporary progressive rock influences from King Crimson to Porcupine Tree with Berlin-era Bowie, early '80s post-punk, and '90s alternative to form a punchy and propulsive sound all their own.
The band, consisting of drummer Adam Figura and multi-instrumentalist and vocalist David Tomkins, released their debut record "Forget the End of the World" in 2019 to critical acclaim, with The Prog Mind and Powerplay Magazine both giving the album 8/10 stars and the Dutch Progressive Rock Page proclaiming:
"Lord Helmet has a great way with a hook-laden tune, and their mix of heavy prog riffing and punchy drumming barrels along with large dollops of hard rock, classic rock choruses, and heads-down punch. But the sound that ices this cake is David Tomkins's voice, which sounds like the charismatic offspring of David Bowie and The Sisters of Mercy's Andrew Eldritch."
Lord Helmet released their follow-up album, "Get Back to the Ship," on June 18, 2021 to rave reviews. In their 8.5/10 review of the album, the Prog Mind praises its "truly haunting, marching, [and] surreal songs," nothing that "even with ... [its] interesting elements, the album succeeds primarily because the writing is solid. The choruses are catchy and there are addictive rhythms to be found all over the place. It feels like each and every song has something memorable, from beguiling tunes to abstract brilliance." Meanwhile Stephen Conrad of Progressive Rock Fanatics writes, "LORD HELMET makes music like Thor’s Hammer -- forged of other-worldly metal that makes the hardest, densest iron seem like silly putty -- battering and pummeling with a vibrant intensity," adding that the band "lays down a stirring, searing slice of heavy progressive music during which one can never rest, and in which the pace is relentless."
